Beware of Spoofing

Spoofing may be found in various versions and IT-criminals use it consistently to try and gain information and access to clients and IT-systems.

The latest example of a spoofing attempt is taking place from a domain called scanql.com with a Q instead of a G and the criminals are asking our customers to remit to another account number than usual.

“IT-criminals are very busy these years, and we have seen many cases of how they can interfere and damage legitimate businesses. We follow the rules and suggestions from our IT providers and partners within cyber security and consider our IT-platform to be safe and secure. Never the less the human factor is the cause of most incidents. An unwarranted click may be enough. Hence, we strongly encourage our clients to always contact their account manager if they suspect a mail or contact is not coming from us, even if it claims to be. Never just do what is asked, if it appears odd. And that goes for anyone using IT,” says IT Director Kuno Lange Jensen at Scan Global Logistics.

For better IT-safety we recommend in general that you always pay attention to the wording of the mail, as many phishing attempts will include questions and request information that a normal and legitimate business would never ask. For instance, verify your account or warnings that your account has been compromised, provide your login information or other variations. When it comes to spoofing – contact your IT-department and the correct company that supposedly send you the odd-looking mail. They will always like to know, so they can take the necessary actions.

We are currently looking into how the spoofing attempt may be shut down, but it may take a few weeks before it is actually in effect.
