Intensified focus on reducing CO2 emissions with partners during 2023

27 Mar, 2024

The Sustainability Report 2023 is out, highlighting our initiatives within the Environment, Social and Governance scope.

In 2023, we have intensified our work towards reducing our own and our customers’ CO2 emissions, resulting in initiatives with partners like MAN Energy Solutions, Alfa Laval and Majid Al Futtaim Lifestyle.

Also, developing the Transportation Action Guide on how companies can reduce their emissions from transportation, together with IKEA, Scania, and the Exceptional Roadmap Initiative, is a great achievement in this journey. We presented this work at COP28 in Dubai.

Given the complex nature of the decarbonisation challenge, collaboration across industries and supply chains is essential to making progress. To that end, we invite our customers, suppliers and industry partners to join us, which will be our focus in 2024.

‘It is a challenging task within the transportation sector and a long process with step-by-step improvements. However, we must all act responsibly across all modes of transport to tackle this challenge and find solutions together. The window for meaningful change is closing; now is the time to drive collective courage for a low-carbon future, says Martin Andersen, Global Head of Sustainability & ESG in Scan Global Logistics.

Highlights from the report include:

  1. Emissions reduction. We reduced our transportation emissions intensity for scope 3 by 5.32% per gram of CO2e for every tonne-kilometre. As well as future-proofing our renewable energy strategy by investing in Power Purchase Agreement’s (PPA) for solar parks in Denmark and Sweden.

  2. Science-based target. We received validation of our near-term science-based target and submitted a long-term target for validation by the Science-Based Targets Initiative.

  3. Climate action. We maintained the A- score in our second year of disclosing to CDP, confirming our position in the ‘leadership’ category, which recognises companies implementing best climate action practices.

  4. Social responsibility. We comprehensively evaluated our global operations and value chain's impact on human rights. The conclusions will guide our efforts to guarantee human rights throughout our operations, partners, and customers.

  5. Annual employee survey. We achieved a score of 83% on our annual employee Meaningfulness Questionnaire.

  6. ESG reporting. We conducted a double materiality assessment and restructured our sustainability report in preparation for compliance with the EU’s CSRD and the ESRS.
