Scan Global Logistics (SGL) is announcing their support of the 1.5°C Business Playbook, joining the Exponential Roadmap Initiative, which brings together transformative and disruptive businesses, committed to halving emissions before 2030 towards net-zero, integrating climate in business strategy and influencing climate action in society, as described by the 4 pillars of the Playbook.
In joining the Exponential Roadmap Initiative, SGL commits to halving emissions every decade until 2050 and devotes itself to exploring innovative ways to reach net-zero emissions as one of the companies in the 1.5°C Supply Chain Leaders, joining forces with a growing group of global corporations driving climate action throughout global supply chains in line with science.
The Exponential Roadmap Initiative brings together innovators, scientists, companies, and NGOs, which are taking action in line with the 1.5°C ambition, with the mission to halve emissions before 2030 through exponential climate action and solutions. The initiative is an official partner of the United Nations' Race To Zero campaign and TED Countdown.
The Playbook highlights how businesses can reach net-zero emissions through exponential action to halve their greenhouse gas emissions every decade and fully integrate climate action into their business strategy. Focusing on simplicity and speed, the 1.5°C Business Playbook helps organizations set a 1.5°C aligned strategy and move to action.
The Playbook has four focus pillars:
The transport and logistics sector of which freight forwarder SGL is a part of accounts for a significant share of global GHG scope 3 emissions and must be decarbonized to limit climate change to the temperature of 1.5°C.
As part of the SGL sustainability strategy, decarbonization of logistics solutions must be done through partnerships, and SGL has an opportunity to provide low and net-zero emissions solutions to its customers that enable them to decarbonize 50-90 % of their transportation emissions and gain a competitive advantage in the climate transition within their sectors.
By taking a coordinating role at the center of the supply chain, SGL can work together with customers, freight transport operators, and other partners to develop low or net-zero emissions transport and logistics solutions and help to create demand for them.
While there are no simple solutions, SGL addresses the urgent need for decarbonized logistics solutions by leveraging our ability to remove complexity together with our strong global partnerships, know-how, entrepreneurship, and human approach.
"At Scan Global Logistics, we see it as our shared responsibility to limit global warming, and we need to act urgently in partnerships to get the CO2 reduction results needed. Therefore, we are proud to join the ecosystem of leaders and look forward to reducing emissions together with like-minded companies. We align with our corresponding Science Based Targets by supporting the 1.5°C Business Playbook and becoming part of the 1.5°C Supply Chain Leaders. We are taking action now for the generations to come. We hope that many more companies will use the Playbook to halve their emissions before 2030 in the Race To Zero."

Johan Falk, Head of Exponential Roadmap Initiative, Lead author of 1.5°C Business Playbook, says:
"Now is the time for all companies and organizations to join the Race To Zero, with a laser focus on the first halving of emissions by 2030. The 1.5°C Business Playbook serves as a guideline for all to set a 1.5°C aligned strategy and move to action."
The 1.5°C Business Playbook is a spin-off from the Exponential Roadmap, highlighting the 36 solutions that can scale exponentially to halve Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 2030 worldwide. Scaling of solutions comes from sharp policy, climate leadership by companies and cities, and a finance and technology shift towards green solutions with exponential potential. The roadmap shows how we can build a stronger, more resilient, and future-proof global economy and increase human prosperity and health – within the planetary boundaries.
The 1.5°C Supply Chain Leaders will encourage small and medium-sized suppliers to make the SME Climate Commitment and take climate action through the SME Climate Hub, a one-stop-shop for businesses with fewer than 500 employees to create an internationally recognized climate commitment and access practical tools and resources to mitigate their environmental impact and build resilient businesses for the future.
