Who cares? We do!

As a part of our ESG activities (Environmental, Social and Governance criteria) and commitment to the UN Global Compact initiative we have signed on as a sponsor and supporter of Cargo Human Care.

Cargo Human Care was established in 2007 by Lufthansa cargo pilot Fokko Doyen who saw the poverty in Kenya and felt something had to be done.

Today that idea has grown into a powerful organization supporting care, medical aid and education, and we at Scan Global Logistics are proud to be a part of the sponsors, doing our part.

We want to make a difference, and via Cargo Human Care we have specifically taken on the responsibility to sponsor five young adults who could use a helping hand. The five young people are:

  • Mary Muthoni Kiania (born 16/06/2001)
  • Phillip Mithamo (born 01/03/2001)
  • Pauline Njeri (born 08/12/2000)
  • John Ndungu Wanjiru (born 01/01/2002)
  • Joshua Kimani Mwaura (born 15/08/1999)

The young people are currently living at the John Kaheni Residence, who looks after 32 adolescents, providing them with vocational training and other competencies supported by professionals. In general, the facility is establishing a foundation for their future in terms of skills and education.

“We believe in the importance of taking a stand and that it is better to do something than nothing when it comes to ESG. We are in an ongoing process of improvement, but we are backing up our good intentions with action, and will be doing so even more in 2020,” Says Tore Håkonsson, Executive Vice President of People and Culture.

The United Nations – whom we have been working closely with for 40 years – has set 17 Global Goals and by supporting Cargo Human Care we are now making a direct impact pertaining to three of these goals:

Goal 17 “Partnerships to achieve goals”

Goal 3 “Good Health and Well-being”

Goal 4 “Quality education”

We are determined to improve our engagement within ESG in several areas, just as we comply to the UN Global Compact and look into other areas of the 17 UN Goals.

We strongly encourage all employees to do whatever each of us can. It does not necessarily have to be in a big scale. Anything from turning off the lights to reducing the use of copy paper is helpful.

Some see corporations as indifferent to world around them. We at Scan Global Logistics believe that we all have to do whatever little we can. So, to those who says, who cares? The answer is: We do!
