Steering a Critical Engine Part to the Rescue

When a critical engine part destined for a cruise vessel missed its ship and faced a potential standstill, we were called upon for an urgent solution. The engine part, essential for the vessel's seaworthiness, needed to be delivered to Juneau, AK, to prevent a significant disruption. Challenge

A small boutique forwarder based in Copenhagen and Cape Canaveral, FL, had a 44lb, high-value, critical engine part that arrived late into the Seattle port, missing the ship it was destined to be on. With no alternate plan and the need for quick action, the customer called us to collect the part from an international air carrier and hand carry it to Juneau, AK, before the vessel left that same day. Without this engine part, the ship would not have been deemed seaworthy and would have been stopped in its tracks by the US Coast Guard.

Solution

In short order, our Operations Manager of Ocean Imports in Seattle, WA, booked a midday flight to send a team member to Juneau to hand deliver this part. The customer arranged for a technician to collect the part from our teammate at the airport.

Results

This quick action by the team earned high praise from the customer, and the good news even reached the customer’s Head of Logistics. With the part on board, the 3,000-capacity cruise vessel could finally make its voyage.
