Streamlining Port Logistics:

A Seamless Transition for Major Cruise Line Operation

Overview

In 2024, we undertook a significant project to become the port logistics provider for a major client in the cruise industry at the Port of Galveston. This project involved a comprehensive overhaul of the existing logistics operations to enhance service delivery for one of the industry’s largest players.

Challenge

The primary challenge was to ensure a smooth transition from the previous logistics provider to our services, avoiding any operational disruptions. We needed to set up a new logistics infrastructure capable of handling complex requirements, including warehousing, order collection, and nationwide shipments, without impacting ongoing operations.

Solution

We established a consolidation point at our SGL Houston warehouse, optimizing logistics operations for the client. Our services include warehousing, order collection within the Gulf areas, consolidation from various vendors, LTL shipments nationwide, and direct deliveries from IAH airport to the Port of Galveston. This setup efficiently supports the needs of three vessels currently and prepares us for a fourth vessel during the winter season.

Results

To date, we have successfully managed 2,086 pieces, totaling 791,961 lbs, with operations running smoothly and without any constraints. Our synchronized teams in Miami and Houston have met all client demands, and we are poised to expand our services to other brands and potentially other major cruise lines in the future.
