Eighty percent of the Cambodian exports currently consist of garments and footwear. The American market has been dominating for years, but in the past 2-3 years, European importers have also discovered Cambodia. As a direct result of increased cost in China, numerous multinational companies are relocating their production elsewhere and Cambodia stand to greatly benefit from this.
Besides commercial trade – Cambodia is a large receiver of foreign aid. Amongst the largest international donors: ADB, UNDP, World Bank, IMF, Australia, Canada, China, Denmark & Sweden.
Torben Nybo Jensen, Regional Director, Business Development South East Asia at Scan Global Logistics, says
“Since the country’s inception into ASEAN (1999) and in particular into the WTO (2004), trade and foreign direct investment has increased substantially and this is expected to continue for many years to come. This is one of the new Asian Tigers”.
