This agreement establishes a six-year Master Contract, with the parties stating that; “this agreement protects union jobs and allows ports on the East and Gulf Coasts to modernize with new technology making them safer and more efficient, creating the capacity they need to keep our supply chains running”.
Read the joint ILA and USMX statement here.
Terms of the new contract have not been disclosed and the two parties have agreed to continue operating under the current contract until the new contract has been ratified. It is though clear, that the new agreement includes a resolution on the topic of automation which has been a key point of disagreement between the ILA and USMX.
As a result of this news there has been no interruption to port operations and with no outlook of any form of interruption in the coming days and weeks either.
